On we go

Postby Petros » Sat Apr 27, 2013 2:06 am

Today - Friday - has been our anniversary. Herself and I had a pleasant, quiet day - a trip to the movies, some great meals, a nice evening. 26 great years to thank God for. A lot of miracles, not least finding one another in the first place.

Elizabeth Jennings wrote this - with is both a nice restatement from 1 Corinthians 13, and a description what we have been blessed with:

‘Friendship’ (Familiar Spirits, 1994)

You need not touch, you need not feel,
You scarcely need a sense at all
Since this love is a happy duel
Of minds, and it is always full

Of shared excitement. Argument
Never becomes a quarrel with
This kind of love. It is intent
On understanding, uses breath

To share good-will and chooses words
That will not hurt; it moves about
And only crosses nursery-swords.
It never knows a cause to doubt
Fidelity or trust. It gives
Unstintingly yet always keeps
Sharp eyes upon the other’s griefs.
It never rests. It dares all deeps,
It is the way the spirit lives.
The truth, the stark naked truth, the truth without so much as a loincloth on, should surely be the investigator's sole aim - Basil Chamberlain

Yes! Congratulations!

Yes, many congratulations and much rejoicing that you have experienced 26 years together. My wife and I celebrated 35 years this week. We are looking forward to many more.
And may you also have many more as God continues to build your lives together as an expression of His greatness on this earth.

What is strangest of all, how you two are celebrating your twenty-sixth anniversary and your bride is not quite to her 24th birthday! (from the mind's eye).

Tell me about it! I THINK I am now about 28 or so - 24 is right about where herself is - and the calendar says Number 1 Son will reach 25 this year. Our bodies know about time, but our minds really don't get it and our souls are just visiting from our home in eternity.

I wouldn't say "visiting". More like "passing through". "Visiting" implies that our souls pre-existed in Heaven and so will return there someday (a Mormon concept). Rather, our souls were created at the same time as our bodies (probably at conception), and will inhabit these bodies for a while, be separated for a while and then return to these same glorified bodies at the Resurrection.

Agreed, Nathan. None of us are "old souls". Bad, bad theology!!!
The real me is still very, very young.
This body, once created for eternity, a little tattered and worn.
God will have it sent in for complete overhaul someday.
Then mind body and soul will be a perfect match.
