Hosanna

Postby Petros » Sun Mar 29, 2015 9:17 am

Palm Sunday - well, we got no palms here excepting our hands.

Usually it is Willow Sunday but the pussy willow is dead and nothing else has budding branches this year except for some very scrawny and shivering forsythia.
Sop we go back to more northerly climes - Yew Sunday it is.

But the start of Holy Week, the commemoration of the entry into Jerusalem, and definitely a time for praise - and thought.

HJosanna in the highest.

Hardy palms grow in a few sheltered gardens here and there, but practically speaking they are only abundant down on our coast, about 5 hours drive southeast. Still we manage to get palm fronds every year for church (and then burned to create ashes for Ash Wednesday).
On the first "Palm Sunday", the folks around Jerusalem simply gathered the nearest leaves available to welcome Jesus, and they happened to be palm fronds. Use what is at hand!

Preached this morning on the stones crying out (Luke). As it turned out the stones Did testify. The prophesy was fulfilled over 3 decades later. Not one stone left upon another, because they did not recognize the time of the Lords coming to them. Because the Chosen one was rejected by the chosen people, the rejected have a savior who was also rejected. He became like one of us that he could save us... Hosannah indeed

And what would I hear from Number 1 Son if I had let that one out?

I tend to generate them fot him just to certify that he is not interacting with an impostor.

A little late in response.

While tradition shows that the people set down palm fronds as Jesus passed through Jerusalem, it also says that they laid down their clothing.

You could have made it "Clothing Sunday" instead, where everyone comes to church, strips down and burns their clothing, then uses the ashes to make the sign of the cross on their foreheads. :D

Fine for parts of the Mediterranean, but in France, England, Germany the Reformation would have adjusted that given how easter in those climes interacts with weather patterns. My old teacher's Polar Bear swims are not to everyone's taste.
