Who knows you practice Naturism and do you tell?

Postby nature » Tue Jun 17, 2014 5:56 am

I have new questions as I start out on my a new phase of my life, that is being a Naturist at all times in my house.

1. Do your family or friends know?
2. Do you tell them?
3. What do you do when friends accept your naturist lifestyle and you invite them over? Do you stay as you are or do you wear textiles?

These are just a few of my questions so far . . . . more may follow.

I am a non-optimist [pessimist is such an ugly word] and a need-to-know data conservative.

Herself and Number 1 Son have been told that I have always had a nudity preference, including knowing about my way back nude wanderings in the lonelier parts of the park. Nice Niece Liesl has info that if she is what I believe will maker her aware of my nudity driver, which I suspect she shares.

My practice is - given Herself's attitude and the state of society - strictly solitary.

1. Not sure about my family; many of them are on Facebook and probably guess, since I don't exactly keep it a secret. Most of my friends know and they're fine with it. Some have even joined me. 8)

2. I go on a "need to know" basis. My coworkers don't need to know, but most of my musical colleagues do, since in some ways that's a closer relationship than "normal" work. And if it becomes clear that we'll be spending some time together, I'll definitely mention something. But twice now I've wanted to be part of the praise team at churches I've started to attend, and I've let the leader know of my activities. The first time I was turned down. The second, the rabbi of the small Messianic congregation was personally fine with it and actually let me lead music for a while, but then the local Messianic council got wind of what was happening and put pressure on the rabbi, and he asked me not to be music leader any more. :( Yet I don't regret telling them. It was better to find out early than to make them think I was deceiving them.

3. If our friendship is such that we can be naked together, of course I'll get naked! But if they're still uncomfortable with nudity themselves, I'll get dressed. Better to be mutually nude than for only one to be nude.

I have been visiting the nude beach now for seven years. My wife and children know, and a couple of friends. I have not withheld the information from anyone, rather it just has not come up in conversation. The people at my church don't know. I believe that my naturism is more than just for my enjoyment, I believe that God has a purpose in it. Therefore I am anticipating it being made known at my church, but in His time. God already has a schedule and a plan in place, and so I wait patiently, but eagerly.

Thanks for the replies. From them I gleam, that in a certain sense, it is none of their business to know what I do.

Obviously my wife and kids know, but the rest is only on a need to know basis. And naturally it also depends if it comes up during conversation and I feel comfortable in sharing.

Nearly all of my friends, family and neighbors know that I prefer to be nude around the house and garden whenever practical, including our Sunday School class. I have NEVER had a negative comment, although a few have said that it is not for them or that people would cover their eyes if they ever say THEM naked. I have never had to just come out and say, "I'm a NATURIST". However, I have never shied away from acknowledging it whenever nudity comes up in conversation. It is just a matter of fact.

Many of us, as mature Christians, have a clear duty to newer Christians to teach the whole body of what we know about Christian living. This includes doctrine about the body. Anyone who neglects this is guilty of sin.

However, that does NOT mandate a detailed narrative of your weekend trips to a campground. Is it naturist or textile campground? No need to get into that with everyone. Do I take a shower nude? I have never discussed this with anyone. Why should I mention that I sunbathe nude in a protected portion of my backyard unless there is a need to know?
Do some textile parents let their kids romp around the house nude at bathtime or swim in a backyard pool without clothing behind a privacy fence. Of course many of them do, but unless you are there at that hour of the evening, it never gets discussed. Why on earth would this ever come up in a conversation? If it does, I presume the person I am talking to understands the theology of the body I live by. Otherwise, I stay off topics that are subject to misinterpretation by prudes or otherwise ignorant people.

I have to ask -

how many topics does that really leave?

Some friends and relatives - and I am nort criticizing here [for once] I camn dioscuss weather, I can crack some kinds of jokes, and that's about it.

A VERY small contingent I can discuss deep stuff, and could if need be speak of naturism without anticipating ostracism. Count them [including a few deceased and some I am not longer in contac t with] and you will not rujn out of fingers.

I understand that if you want to share your naturist lifestyle with friends then you not only have to be comfortable with it, have a very good friendship relationship and it comes up in general conversation, then you can mention it.

What do we do with regards to social platform, such as Facebook? Do you join naturist groups on Facebook? Do you post on your status?

I do not. I don't even visit the AANR or TNS or any other naturist page on Facebook. And I especially don't comment on any naturist related posts there.

Why? I'm Facebook friends with several people from my church - including a couple of pastors. Facebook will sometimes post on other people's timelines that you've commented or liked something. Without intending to, any naturist activity on Facebook could be broadcast to anyone else you are friends with.

Another of the many reasons my short Facebook experience is long over.

My daughters and grand kids know that I live in a nudist resort; my friends are all nudists/naturists because of where I live. I don't have to be concerned about offending anyone and never put anything on when I get UPS deliveries, although most of my deliveries go to the office where I pick them up.

The only people I'm reluctant to tell that I live in a nudist resort are those in a church--not because I'm ashamed of it or think I'm doing something wrong, but because most Christians (especially pastors) consider social nudity to be a sin. One pastor said, "You can come here, but you can't participate in anything." Another pastor said (in an e-mail), "We can't have a nudist representing our church, and God wouldn't be pleased with it anyway." I've only come across one pastor (except in this Web site and Naturist Christians) who said, "We don't judge people here." Unfortunately, the teachings there are very simple and boring. Also, even though they have no problem with me coming there, no one from the church is comfortable coming into the resort; they wanted me to walk to the front gate. The resort is over 500 acres, and I live a long way from the front gate. Being fully dressed and walking to the gate in 90+ temperature did not sound inviting.

I'm telling more and more people I'm a nudist, including an assistant Casino Shift Manager where I work yesterday morning during a conversation regarding how a young lady coming from the Electric Daisy carnival music festival was dressed with her buttocks fully uncovered.

I've really had no strong negative feedback from anyone.

Thanks for the mixed responses that I have received. With living in South Africa and growing up in a conservative society, I'm scared for others to know. In fact as my wife is a teacher, she is afraid that if it came out, she may loose her job. And let's not even start talking about the reaction from our local church that we attend. So with all these fears we have not shared anything with anyone and have not been in a social setting. (Besides at this stage my wife is too uncomfortable to loose all her clothing, anyway).

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

If you believe that society should change its attitude about nudity, the body God gave us to live in while we walk this earth, or perhaps even the topic of naturism, someone should say something to start the process. It doesn't have to be you, but it should be someone or the problem remains for another generation to suffer through.

If you find yourself up against a pastor, deacons and an entire congregation who is convinced that the body is cursed by God and can never under any circumstances be seen, I can't imagine the harm such an attitude would have on my children as they go to church to learn about the things of God. One has to wonder if there are other churches less hostile to God's creation.
